Self discovery through world exploration
For the first time in my life, I was a full-time writer—until I was laid off in July 2022.
From 2015 to 2022, I was fortunately enough to have a writing dayjob that paid the rent and kept the lights on, allowing me to maintain my blog, AvoidingRegret.com, without receiving immediate compensation for it.
And then I got laid off.
I jumped back into another job—as a digital producer for our local PBS station, KCET—but at a HUGE pay cut and on a temporary basis. That job just ended on June 28, 2024.
My blog is monetized with a small amount of ads enabled, but in reality that's just a tiny revenue source -- especially considering the fact that I typically fund my own travel and buy my own tickets rather than being "hosted" or "comped." (And now, MUCH less of it can be taken as a tax deduction.)
That means I write what I'm truly passionate about... and worry about turning it into an income source later.
If you've enjoyed what I've published... been inspired by it or shared it with others... would you consider buying me a coffee?

The New York Times Amplifier section today ran a lengthy piece about David Lynch’s extensive musical collaborations. He certainly possessed a boundless imagination. Thanks for your post about him. There’s some good weather news—the Pacific high pressure ridge might be sliding over enough to admit some California-bound moisture.
