A while ago I started searching for a proper digital logbook for base jumping and couldn't find anything that would adjust to my needs. At first I decided to use Excel spreadsheet like a lot of jumpers I know. It worked well for some time, but let's face it, spreadsheets are ugly and not user friendly. That's when I discovered Notion.
Notion is a note taking web application with a lot of productivity components like databases, boards, wiki pages and a lot more. It's free and easy to use both from desktop and mobile, and it's not vendor locking (you can export your data any time to several standard formats and import it into another tool or even a spreadsheet). With the help of this tool I created a knowledge base system to track all my BASE related activities. I also created a template so if you're interested, you could freely use it and adjust it to your own needs.
What features does it have?
First of all I wanted to have an easy visual access to all my jumps, both from web and mobile browser. Adding new data can be done easily with the set of predefined templates.
I have sections to track all the related aspects of my jumps: sites, friends that I jump with or different pieces of gear:
Sites. It lets me see the details of all the object along with statistics of jumps there. There's also a view for the places I plan to jump. I usually prepare there upcoming objects.
People. I track all the friends who jump with me. We build great memories together, each jump is a shared adventure. I also like to have their emergency contacts, just in case.
Gear. It's important to understand the ageing of my gear. How many jumps each piece has? How old is it? Has any maintenance been done?
Finally, I added some reporting functionalities. There's a set of dynamic reports that show me what have I done, where and with whom in the indicated time period. Just indicate in the dashboard's report settings the date from and date to, the report pages will be set accordingly.
