Hello fellow traveller of the universe! My name's Tobias and this is my video essay/documentary project, Vosa.

I have a background in Philosophy, History, and Journalism, as well as photography, film-making, and music. I'm an interdisciplinary artist, and to be honest, I really just love exploring shit, travelling really. Enjoying the beauty of what this world has to offer. Whether it's in nature, talking to people and having interesting conversations, or in the world of ideas, the past, stories, myth.

I started this channel out with The Encoding, We Live Inside a Metaphor, The Invention of Time, and The Attention Economy, exploring the theme of the relationship between technology and our inner lives as human beings.

Given how fast technology has been progressing from the Industrial Revolution to now, and the accelerated pace of advancements like the Internet, social media, and LLMs, I felt like we needed some kind of discussion to shift awareness less to what's the next fancy gadget, what can we do with this? To how is this impacting us, and why are we putting so much energy into going down this current cultural trajectory?

The World is a Word was my take on the philosophy of language, and HUMBOLDT: The Poet Scientist, a homage to the forgotten father of environmentalism and ecology, who was a scientist just as much as a poet. It's a story I felt needed to be told through a video essay.

You look at the sheer funds available for the tech industry compared to something like philosophy and creative endeavours. It's absurd. Frankly, fucked up.

We need to recalibrate that balance and dig deeper into the foundation of how we got to where we are today, what are our values that are guiding us that we've largely forgotten? What did our ancestors have to tell us, in this long human saga that we are just one single crashing ocean wave inside? How are we living lives that can open up a deeper appreciation of life and sense of wonder for those that come after us?

This project has been a way for me to concentrate on a theme, and build something using my creative toolkit to share that can hopefully be of value to others. I want to see more art being made in this world. More conversations of depth, and genuine openness, rather than at a level of numbing superficiality. More people feeling free and empowered to question, create, and connect.

That's what I'm about.

The project's all solo at this stage. With the workload, there's research, writing, multiple drafts, archival footage collecting, video editing, then creating music. Ideally, I would love to use funds from this YouTube channel to be able to delegate roles instead of having to take it all on myself. This is the practical pathway to being able to release these video essays faster, whereas right now, it takes a couple of months minimum with all the work involved.

I'd love to build this project more, develop it, but I also have to make a buck to survive and eat. I admit each video essay is often a pain in the ass to create. There's a lot of time put into it staring at a screen, and headaches involved, where honestly, I often motivate myself to get through each one by treating it as the last. In the AI-slop era I see a lot of hope in the potential for more quality crafted works to emerge, that are unmistakable human. This human quality needs to come out more than ever. Lean into those little things a machine can't do. Hopefully, without the superficiality of YouTube, where content is created for the purpose of succeeding through the algorithm's metrics, CTR, maximising retention. Mr Beast's format, essentially. And with that, you lose a lot of soul, and videos become hollow and corporate feeling.
