Kaufe Voices of Academia Podcast einen Kaffee

Hey 👋

Thanks for being here.

I'm Emily - a full-time PhD Candidate in Australia, and host of the Voices of Academia (VoA) podcast.

VoA is a volunteer-led Twitter account, blog, and podcast providing the global academic and ex-academic community a voice to normalise conversations around mental health & illness and reduce stigma.

I have been volunteering since August 2020 with the key roles of developing, hosting, editing, and distributing the podcast. It's important to me because I actively manage an anxiety disorder and treatment-resistant depression, which has impacted my academic career. I thought I was alone in this but have realised there's a global community of academics and ex-academics willing to open up about their experiences with mental ill-health. I hope that by sharing these stories, we can help people feel less alone, and become aware of options to support themselves.

I have taught myself how to develop and edit a podcast, and discuss sensitive topics, all on the side of my PhD. This costs me about 25h/month. This will never become a paid podcast. It's too important to me that it is accessible to all. If you'd like to shout me a coffee to help with running costs though, my poor PhD ass will be eternally grateful :)
