As the holiday season descends upon us, I'm excited to share a special Puppet Blood Manga one-shot that's both a departure from the main series' dark tone and a personal reflection of my own experiences.
This 3-page one-shot tells the story of Uncle Zuo, dressed as Santa, presenting Christmas gifts to Benon and Bun. However, Benon's excitement quickly turns to dismay when he discovers his gift is a witch doll. In contrast, Bun is overjoyed with her present, and Uncle Zuo's happiness is palpable as he leaves Benon with a thoughtful note.
So, why did I create this one-shot?
As the creator of Puppet Blood Manga, I wanted to explore a different side of the characters and their relationships. Despite the main series' dark and often disturbing themes, I envisioned a scenario where Uncle Zuo showed a more compassionate and loving side to his nieces and nephew.
On a personal level, this one-shot is also a reflection of my own childhood experiences. Growing up, I never had the opportunity to receive Christmas gifts, so it was cathartic to create a story that captured the magic and joy of the holiday season.
From concept to completion, this one-shot took me approximately 2 days to finish, with the goal of publishing it before Christmas Day. I'd like to share some behind-the-scenes sketches and insights into my creative process.
