No Matter What: Keep Going

No Matter What: Keep Going

Earlier today, I learned someone I know has been living in their car. Just took the loss of a job and the inability to find replacement full-time work, having to rely on part time/get them while you can gigs, which today is simply not enough to pay the rent.

I already know, personally, of one other friend dealing with the same situation. Learning of this new situation, I sat back in my chair and let out a slow sigh.

Sat there in quiet contemplation.

I get around quite well on social media, given the work I do and have been doing for over 10 years. This allows me to get a collective vibe, a feel, for where people are. Never have I seen so many people wanting to give up. Struggling to keep going - not just financially but mentally. Emotionally. Spiritually. It's as though some sort of dark vacuum is trying to suck us dry of all that is Good within us.

God knows I feel it.

I try all sorts of things to ignore it, because who wants to feel that?

Chocolate.

Homemade banana bread.

Homemade chocolate pudding.

Both of which I currently have in the refrigerator at the moment, having made them late last night when I just needed something sweet and chocolate. Banana bread. Chocolate pudding. I craved them both. So rather than choose, I made them both, simultaneously. 😁

Ok, so I know I don't always have the best coping skills. My kiddo will sometimes say, "Mom are you eating your feelings again?" Usually I smile, but now and then I will growl, shove whatever it is I am holding into my mouth and give the "back off and let me be" look.

I can't kick or scream or even cry away such feelings. It helps, but it isn't enough to shift myself back into Power.

So what does?

Playing piano.

And better yet?

SHARING that music with others.

Tonight, that was recording myself and sharing it with my friends who are struggling to in the hopes of giving them some comfort. I recorded this piece back in July, only having played it for a few days back at the time. But now, I've all but mastered it so I decided to re-record, upload and share. It's one of those songs that inspires us to keep going.

Even when we want to give up, find SOME reason, whether outside of our heart or within it, to keep going.

Even if that looks like trying something new.

Even if that looks like baking banana bread or homemade pudding at 11:00 at night.

Even if that looks like spending the day watching the sky and soaking up some sun.

Or even if it looks like simply listening to some music to inspire the Soul.

If this sort of music isn't your "thing", you can always check out the Retro Cocktail Hour, available for streaming online 24/7. Kansas City Radio. Jazz. Lounge-style music. Bossa Nova. Orchestra. Swing. All sorts of eclectic music, much of it instrumental. Here is the link where you can listen to their latest broadcast or go back years in time to choose something of your liking: https://kansaspublicradio.org/podcast/retro-cocktail-hour

And lastly, here is my latest recording of Don't Dream It's Over. Crowded House cover.

Keep going.

No matter what.
