I wrote my first medium article discussing embracing having two career interests that seem unrelated.
I always knew I wanted a creative career. As an only child, my imagination was very energetic and vivid. I enjoyed painting, building things out of cardboard, and sewing. I lived in my little world of make-believe.
I excelled in traditional academia, so, ideally, my family wanted me to go into the sciences or law. In many communities of color, it’s common for parents to want their children to be either a lawyer, doctor, engineer, or something like that. That’s not what I wanted for myself or what made me happy. However, I couldn’t verbalize what I wanted to do in a way that seemed acceptable...
