Welcome!

Welcome to Scrapbook Adventures: a travel blog that shares experiences from around the globe with you. Thank you for having a read at this post and for spending some time on our profile. We thought it might be a good idea to tell you a bit about the girls behind the page and let you get to know us a bit better. How else can we form a community if you don't know who we are and what we do!

I'm Heather. I'm in my early 30s from Scotland and, before travelling full time, I worked as a Physiotherapist in a busy private practice. Whilst I enjoyed Physio, it wasn't bringing me the joy that it once did and during lockdown I was reflecting (as were a lot of people) on what I was doing and what I wanted to do going forward. It was during one of these reflections that I was thinking about my time at Camp Timbercrest as part of Camp America. I had an amazing experience there, met some incredible people and definitely didn't want to come home: the travel bug was caught. The plan was then to finish up my MSc and get a visa to work abroad. During my MSc year, I needed an income and began working in a Physio clinic full time alongside my studies. Life 'started' and suddenly I was 10 years in to a career that I was no longer massively passionate about and the working abroad never materialised. No wonder I've felt so unsettled with one of my main ambitions remaining unfulfilled!

So, I got my head down and I worked and I saved and I worked and I saved and I worked and I saved (you get the gist). I researched and took notes and researched some more and suddenly travelling full time seemed a lot more within reach than it did previously. My love of language, culture, people and adventure could all come together and, perhaps, that ambition would finally be fulfilled and I could finally feel settled.

I got in to Physiotherapy because I wanted to help people - and I'm nosey and love a chat - and I still want to help people but in a different way. I want to help people see that there is a world out there for them to explore and it's way more accessible than it seems. I want to provide people with a safe space to share their stories and connect with other like minded individuals so that we can all learn and support each other. I want to get to know you and have a chat over a coffee which means that I will still get to be nosey and gab away!

image I'm Jo. I'm also in my 30s and I'm also from Scotland. I worked in the emergency services during the pandemic and, to be quite frank, I was scunnered. There were so many things that just didn't align with me that it started getting exhausting just wakening up in the morning let alone facing the day. I knew something had to change.

When I finished uni, I worked as a travel rep and it was one of the best times of my life. I had so much fun in the sun and getting to live and work in a different country to mine was a dream come true. Like Heather though, I came home and soon got my 'real job' and life 'started' and now, 10 years later, here we are.

I love images and I really believe that a picture tells a thousand words. Where Heather writes, I take videos and photos and I'm learning how to edit these so that I can get the best out of my creations. I love street photography in particular and the passion I have for taking pictures of different societies and cultures lights the fire back up in my belly.

I'm so excited for the opportunity to build this community with you and share our journey with you through visual tools. I hope you like our stories and photo series' and I hope you'll share your journey with us as well.

Scrapbook Adventures was a dream realised by two girls who felt completely fed up with how things were going and decided to change it. It's scary, it's nerve wracking, it's exciting, it's hard and it's bloody great fun. All the long nights and all the stress is worth it and we really hope that you'll love spending time with us as much as we love having you here. Please interact with us - ask questions, give feedback and let us know what else you're looking for.

We are both excited to have you here and we can't thank you enough. Until next time. Haste ye back.
