Gotta figure out a way to prove I'm still active among other transparency concerns, so why not revive some of my older writings (some which have originally been kept private) while I temporarily pause writing main blog content (both on my personal weblog and untilted dot lol blog) for a while as I want to polish some things during August. I know this would originally go under a page that I used to maintain on my weblog called "Musings" but everything (especially writing some of the code and keeping track of my writings) began to feel too tedious to continue to maintain. Most of the content I post will get repackaged somewhere else whether on my weblog or my main website anyway. So I thought, why not repackage that as a series of posts on my Buy Me A Coffee page, in which I repost some of my older writings with additional context?
Anyway, I chose to repost this recent writing from my personal Mastodon account here because it's a thought that's been sticking with me for a long time, that it seems no one wants to acknowledge.
I get annoyed by anyone who thinks that the people around them don't deserve better than humor for entertainment or to bond through. Many different kinds of people can entertain themselves and can communicate through many other means besides just humor. Also, we don't all share the same mediums through which people bond with one another.
Personally, I refuse to do what I feel could be disingenuous to myself by way of using my problems for self-deprecating/dark humor content just to connect with people or even merely entertain them. It just doesn't feel natural to me, even as someone literally making a comic based off some of my issues (though not technically a full-on self-insert). In my personal experience, many people I know mainly use humor to escape difficult feelings rather than build something meaningful out of them. I've seen people stop being friends with each other because one isn't "fun" enough. And a small amount of the other people I've observed, I assume, can and do use humor to create enough psychological space to sit with a given uncomfortable feeling without being completely overwhelmed by that feeling.
But given that my lived experience is quite limited, I guess I'm just hypervigilant about the implications for no reason.
