CHASE MODE ACTIVATED ONE LAST TIME FOR 2023

Dec 30, 2023

So a little more on what goes on behind the scenes.

Leading up to today, we’ve been keeping eyes on the models with this low approaching.

More often than not, models change on every run but if they are somewhat producing some noteworthy weather we then look at what is to be expected and if it meets our chase activation criteria we then switch the next step which is ‘Standby’ status.

As always things do change so this morning of the event we take one last look at the latest models. By this point we have an understanding and confidence on models to determine our action. If it still looks good then chase status moves to ‘Activated’

Today is local to us so we haven’t got far to go but for example in the summer if we were looking at severe weather up north in the midlands or Yorkshire our departing time would be early morning. This gives us a chance to take a slow and relaxed drive up given the commitment.

So we’d look at the models just before setting off and make that ‘activate’ chase status and commit to it if the criteria is met. That way we can abort if we think the ‘risk VS reward’ is underrated before making the journey.

Today we are targeting Dartmoor is its fairly exposed for what will bring up to 60+mph winds and heavy rain. There is somewhat a risk of tornadic activity along the southern counties for today so please do stay weather aware.

I don’t think we’d commit to chase mode today if this wasn’t local to us mainly due to it not meeting our long drive criteria but for us this gives us a perfect opportunity to carry out training. I say training, I’ll expand on this more when I make an announcement a little later.

For now, it’s preparations. All camera equip is charged and ready to go.

We’ve looked at our target area being Dartmoor and looked at our road networks, safe areas to stop to observe and put together various routes and plans.

Most important piece of equipment is having an extra pair of pants packed. Never forget that. 😂😂 (Jokes)

It’s time to relax for a couple hours. Our time to departure will be around 2pm!

Last chase of 2023! 🥳

2024 I can’t say much just yet, but it’s going to be wild and exciting. Trust me! 💪🏼
