A Moment Between Worlds
“It was a regular school morning; one I see so clearly in my mind and a day that would change every day to follow for the rest of my life. I was sixteen, almost seventeen at the time and had taken the school bus as always. The early bus had arrived late, so the later bus was not far behind. I took the last three steps of bus platform and walked out to the road to check the traffic in both directions. All was clear. I stepped off the curb and as I reach halfway across the road two minivan taxi’s came screeching round the corner to my left, dicing one another. I flicked my head over in the opposite direction to look at the lane behind me but couldn’t run backwards. There was a red City Golf coming in the other direction. All I could do was hold on to my school satchel and run. The van was going 160km/hr in a 60km/hr zone. I didn’t see or hear anything else. I was surrounded by light and powerful grip of unforgettable love. It wasn’t harsh or blinding, but soft, golden, and warm with a tinge of cream and a subtle pink. This love was a force permeating me to my core, it surrounded me, filled me, held me. I had never felt a love this complete beforein my life on earth. This awareness was clear. I knew, here is where I belonged. I was loved and at peace, held in a sense of oneness with all that was within me and around me. My soul was home. Within this love was a presence, a force that came towards me, I heard a voice, it was God. This knowing is so direct an absolute, you don’t even need to ask questions. It is as it is. A voice that spoke to me,” Will you stay or will you go?”, I knew at this moment precisely what that meant. Did I choose to stay in this place of absolute love, completeness and belonging or return to where I had been. I looked back over my shoulder towards my life I had on earth, I knew I hadn’t completed what I had intended to, what I needed to. The pull to do this within me was strong and resolute. There was no question to this. I would return to my life on earth. The moment my decision came to me, God gave me two instructions, “Do not Judge and do not choose a religion”. When God speaks to you, there is nothing to question. It is absolute. I did look towards God wanting to understand this last instruction more clearly as this was not what my life on earth had told me. God responded,” Why would I create all these people of the earth and give them only one language!” It was a statement not a question.
And just like that I was drifting in and out of awareness of visits by friends and family in the hospital and then at my family home.
The world around me was coming into a fuzzy focus but, now I was not alone. I had a companion with me wherever I went, God”. - Helen-Christi
