I just came off the phone with a friend.
We were talking about Covid19 and there I was, giving my usual spiel on its fatality rate being low, we just need to keep to the SOP and maintain a strong immunity.
Suddenly, out of the blue, he stunned me into silence with this: My sister passed from Covid just 2 weeks back!
OMG! This changes how I communicate with people forever into the future. We never know another's story. I'm never going to rush in with my opinions about anything the way I was prone to do.
Before proceeding, the least I can do is ask myself: what if this person had suffered from the position I'm putting forward?
If given no options but to state facts, put some thoughts into the best words to use to mitigate that. Lesson learned. Thousand apologies to a friend and thank you for the million dollar lesson.
