Embracing Neurodiversity

Embracing Neurodiversity

Apr 28, 2024

As a neurodivergent individual, one thing I often encounter is the well-intentioned but misguided attempts by others to "fix" me—to mold me into their idea of how I should be. But here's the thing: the word "divergent" itself suggests a path that deviates, that differs from the norm.

To try to "correct" someone's neurodivergence is to miss the beauty of diverse minds. It's not only unnecessary but can also be deeply hurtful. It makes me, and many others, feel worse about ourselves as if being different is something negative.

I'm here to say: We don't need to be fixed. We need to be understood and accepted. Our divergent minds bring unique perspectives and creativity to the table. Let’s celebrate neurodiversity and recognize it as vital to human diversity.

Let's strive for a world where every neurotype is celebrated, not corrected. Have you experienced something similar? Let's talk about it and spread awareness together!
