Using a different colour palette for each character from a Colour palette challenge on tumblr, I painted Anakin and Shmi side by side. Shmi's palette is called Wait for it, and Shmi waited for Anakin until the end (or at least, waited for him before dying) and Anakin's palette is called Carry that weight, which could be interpreted as Anakin carrying the guilt of not being able to save his mother (and also, it takes me to that Beatles song: “Boy, you’re gonna carry that weight a long time).
