Life is constantly changing so it's not surprising that from time to time you don't know where you stand and where you want to go.
Sometimes you can suddenly feel lost because something drastic happens such as a redundancy or death. But you can also feel lost for no apparent reason. Perhaps you have felt lost for as long as you can remember.
If someone asks you now how you feel, what do you answer? When you feel lost, it is hard to give an honest answer to that question. You might be quick to say 'Fine', because you don't want to show how you really feel. And if you do want to, it is not so easy. Because what does it actually feel like, to feel lost?
Being lost is difficult to put into words, and this is especially true for people who find it difficult to access their feelings. Moreover, being lost is never the same for anyone all the time. Not only the intensity can vary considerably, but also the behaviour a person displays. For instance, you can be restless and constantly seek conflict, but you can also be apathetic and increasingly withdrawn.
I can never know exactly how you feel, even though I am tempted to say to you when you feel lost: 'I know exactly what you mean.'
I see you,
Tine
