Little Actions Bring Big Changes

A lot of times when people hear I do shadow work, they assume that means some sort of dark magic and that isn't the case at all. Shadow work is actually a form of personal development and healing. You see shadow work is taking the time to recognize how you are holding yourself back from reaching goals and desires, and what you need to work on to improve relationships and other areas of your life. It is learning how to be the best version of yourself by understanding why you act the way you do. After all you can't work to change something if you don't realize you are doing it and you don't understand it.

The good news is you don't have to make all the changes at once, in fact doing it little by little and step by step is best. Little action steps can lead to big changes and wins. The first action step you need to do is identify what is holding you back from reaching your goal or desire. Ok, you also need to know what you want, these go hand and hand. So think about one or two goals or desires you have and write them down. Now read them to yourself. Now underneath them write down all of the thoughts that came up when you were focused on that goal or desire.

Now how many of those thoughts were negative and brought up reasons you can't have or achieve the goal or desire? Circle those negative statements and now examine them, where dose this thought, or belief come from? Is it actually true? What can you choose to believe instead? Congratulations you just started the process of shadow work my friend. You identified a negative belief or thought pattern, possibly a bad habit or two, and started to look into where they come from. Then you started looking for a solution! And the whole process started with the small action of writing down a desire or goal.

I admit this type of deep self-reflection isn't easy and often gets uncomfortable. After all this forces us to look and take accentuality for how we are personally responsible for our lives. And it can be overwhelming. That's why its helpful to work with a coach to help you avoid getting caught up or lost in the guilt or shame of negative habits, and thoughts. Rember guilt and shame will not bring change, understanding, grace and love will.
