The blog was never a means of supporting me, but it did allow me to buy a new Sony headset and in the past a few of the older MP3 Walkmans. I called this the "Walkman Fund". I started the blog in 2009 and it wasn't until 2014 when I earned just over $100 from ad revenue.
With time and posting more leaks, I received a lot more views and visitors. This helped me earn much more ad revenue, but it was never a big amount. It was enough for a new headset every so often. Thanks to the blog, I have been able to buy a few new devices, and help out users with issues, especially on Reddit in the Sony and Sony Headphones subreddits.
I am not alone with such issues, as other adsense users have also posted their own stories of revenue drops.
Above is the ad revenue and page views from January 1st to April 4th 2024, with the below photo of a close up from March 1st to April 4th 2024. There was a change on March 7th which killed any revenue. Some could say maybe this is how it should have been from the start but with some many bots on the internet now, pumping up page views can be done very easily and cheaply.
Compared to last year, the same period, March 7th to April 4th, my ad revenue has dropped 90%. Even my full year comparison is down 85%. :(
I was hoping to save up for a WF-1000XM5 to do a review comparison with my WF-1000XM4 and buy a second WH-1000XM5 to fully tear it down to see how easy it would be to repair it. But neither will be happening anytime soon with these ad revenue drops.
Unlike other tech sites, I don't receive any review units or free stuff to test. All the Sony tech I have is bought with my own money and the ad revenue money.
