LDL Cholesterol Short Read

You may have read my recent post regarding LDL cholesterol. You may also know that if you change your diet to try and lower dietary cholesterol the body increases production of its own cholesterol. 

Common sense might make you realise that if the body ups production it might just be that the body requires cholesterol. 

All over your body the human physiology points to how highly important cholesterol is to good health.

Cholesterol levels are controlled by a length of DNA in your chromosomes, by being switched on or off. There is one gene that encodes for the enzyme that produces molecular cholesterol from non-cholesterol sources. 

Another one encodes for the production of protein that encodes for low density lipoproteins that carry cholesterol. 

Cholesterol makes up 50% by weight of every cell membrane of every one of the 3 to 5 trillion cells in our body.

Cholesterol is the basis of;

  1. Myelin which covers all our neurons

  2. Vitamin D3 which is a cofactor to every other metabolic reaction in our body

  3. Testosterone and estrogen

    Estrogen and testosterone hormone levels.

Cholesterol does not seem to be a cause heart disease

The authors of three large reviews recently published by statin advocates have attempted to validate the current dogma. This article delineates the serious errors in these three reviews as well as other obvious falsifications of the cholesterol hypothesis.

Expert commentary: Our search for falsifications of the cholesterol hypothesis confirms that it is unable to satisfy any of the Bradford Hill criteria (see above criteria details) for causality and that the conclusions of the authors of the three reviews are based on misleading statistics, exclusion of unsuccessful trials and by ignoring numerous contradictory observations.
