In this cycling adventure through Bosnia & Herzegovina, I follow the historic Ciro Trail — a 157 km route that once served as a narrow-gauge railway connecting Mostar with Dubrovnik, now reclaimed as a scenic bike path dotted with ghostly stations, tunnels, bridges, and echoes of the past.
Riding through autumn’s brilliant colors along rocky gravel, misty river gorges, and quiet landscapes, I pedaled alone through an open-air museum. I crossed rugged terrain, caught breathtaking views of mountains and rivers, and walked my bike across a bridge built by Gustave Eiffel himself (that's right, Eiffel - as in the guy who designed the famous Eiffel Tower).
Camping in high winds and thunderstorms, I experienced the fragility and beauty of the Balkans in fall. Along the way I explored Vjetrenica — one of the most biodiverse caves in the world — before descending into Croatia and the stunning coastal city of Dubrovnik.
From history to adventure, solitude to stunning landscapes, this ride was more than a bike tour — it was a journey through time, nature, and a personal challenge.
