About The Sweater Library
colorful, unique clothing and textile art
Hi! I’m a disabled Peruvian-American textile artist and fashion designer living in California. My studio & shop is called The Sweater Library.
Being able to knit, crochet, draw, sew, mend, experiment, design, and create all bring me so much joy and satisfaction in ways that other areas of my life cannot as a somebody living with multiple chronic health conditions.
Buying me a coffee shows me that you not only think my POV may be valuable or needed at this moment, but also that you understand that I operate on crip time. What does that mean? Well, in addition to working a full-time job, I also have to be my own healthcare administrator, go to doctors nearly every week, be in bed approximately 3 more hours a day than most people, do rigorous physical therapy and exercise every day, carefully address my diet and activities, manage dozens of meds and pills, and so much more. Well-meaning nondisabled people ask me, "Why don't you try harder to get your art out there?" Well, I've always tried. I'm just living on a different dimension of time than nondisabled people, which means I don't have time and energy left after working full time and then working my other full-time job of being disabled to realize all of my creative ideas.
So when you buy me a coffee, you help me with the costs of running a studio such as sourcing materials and tools, running experiments, creating prototypes, and more. I recently worked with a contractor to help me create The Skull Vest pattern since I knew it would never have gotten out there if it was just me working on it.
I truly appreciate your support. Thank you for your interest in my work!
