It was quite difficult to locate up-to-date information on how to go by ferry from Nuweiba, Egypt, to Aqaba, Jordan. I felt defeated at times, but I persevered, and today I am able to share my experience and steps with you.
The company from which you will purchase tickets is called AB Maritime. Click here to check out their site.
#1: Ticket Prices. There are two regular ferries. One goes from Aqaba and the other from Nuweiba. I took the ferry from Nuweiba roundtrip, so it was $110 USD per person. A child 2 years old and below costs less, but I personally feel like the age should be up to 5 years.
#2: Trip Schedule. The ferry is supposed to leave Nuweiba's port at 12 p.m. and arrive in Aqaba at 3 p.m. Then leave Aqaba's port at 10 p.m. and arrive in Nuweiba at 1 a.m. Be advised, it took at least two hours for the ferry to leave both ways.
#3: Purchase the Ticket. You can download AB Maritime's app or pay on their website. After you pay, you will receive a confirmation email, but the times won't be listed.
#4: Pick Up. You cannot purchase your ticket at the port. Go to the AB maritime office, which is literally around the corner, and have them print your ticket if you purchased it online. You can also purchase your ticket at the maritime office at least two hours early, but I would not suggest that you do that.
#5: Nuweiba Port. Keep your passport, ferry ticket, negative PCR or rapid antigen test results with QR code, and/or vaccine card if you are vaccinated, readily available. You will be given an immigration form to fill out.
After showing proof of documents, going through TSA twice, and being told to jump the line in front of what seemed to be at least 50 local men, we received our exit stamp from the immigration officer, were given our passports back, and were then told to sit on the far left side of the waiting area away from everyone. I mean, how awkward was that?
About an hour and a half later, we were called to board the free bus to the ferry. When we got to the ferry, they checked our documents before we got on the walkway; they checked them again before we got on the escalator; and then one final time along with the ferry ticket once we got to the ferry door. You would think they know you are legit at this point, but I guess not.
#6: Ferry Ride from Nuweiba to Jordan. We did not know where to sit, so we sat among the locals. The worker immediately guided us to what appeared to be the second floor. The seats were much more comfortable, but the bathroom was a bummer. It always is. There was a kitchen, but we only purchased a few drinks because we brought our own snacks.
I suggest that you bring Dramamine and take it at least 30 minutes to an hour before your departure.
