Kia ora koutou katoa -
Ceremony at the fireside, advocacy for peace in a troubled world, learning and teaching, connecting with the unknown within and around us, whimsy and deep work... this is what we've been up to over the past six months since Matariki (Maori New Year). I have been thinking about the (privileged) ways we are able to be cocreators in our own paths of learning, travel, work. Are you curating a life that is beautiful? That rewards curiosity and exploration? That is taking you in the direction you want to go?
This is the work we do together.
For 2026, we will be hosting writing retreats monthly, attending/presenting papers at 4 conferences, facilitating moments of sacred pause in our usual trauma-informed, decolonising, misfit theologies ways...
Have you set plans for the year yet? Pinned down your seasons, evenings, and year?
Unallocated time and energy can be where we are able to be responsive, to make generous offers, to drop by and go with the flow. Does your life allow for this?
Your time and energy are among the most precious resources you have... spend discerningly and be wary of thieves.
Polychronic time, as opposed to monochronic, is the idea that our time can be doing more than one thing. When references are being made about "island time", this is generally a time to notice what is happening as these understandings aren't aligned. In monochronic time you might be thinking: "I go to the gym 6.30-7.30am, 8am eat breakfast, 9-5pm work... " you do or do not do the thing and interruptions or delays to the plan can be irritating. In polychronic time, something might start when 1) the weather is right, 2) everyone is ready, 3) the right people are here, 4) we've checked in about protocol to set and manage expectations... whether is it 10am when we said we'd start or not is irrevelant, or at least insignificant, to the relational work of "rightness".
If you are someone who has a project in you, a change, a book, or an idea - some intention for your time that hasn't been progressing, why not ask yourself: what would make now the time right to start?
Happy Gregorian New Year -
Talitha
