If You Want a Full Recovery from DPDR, You’ve Got to Recalibrate Your Lifestyle
I know — no one wants to hear this, but it’s the truth: DPDR doesn’t just “pop up” out of nowhere. It develops over years of a dysregulated nervous system. Your cup of stress and anxiety was already full (whether you noticed it or not), and then came the trigger event - be it cannabis, a virus, a panic attack, or something else - that pushed your body into the DPDR state: fight, flight, or freeze.
It doesn’t happen overnight. It often has deeper roots - childhood trauma, long‑standing OCD, an imbalanced lifestyle (bad nutrition, too much caffeine or other stimulants), and a big lack of nervous system regulation. Things like yoga, meditation, relaxation practices, prayer, and anything that truly slows down your heart rate and calms your body have been missing from the picture.
Getting Back to Basics
To recover from DPDR, you have to unwind all of this and get back to the basics. At first, DPDR won’t budge, and that can be discouraging. But in time - with practice - it improves as your body starts to feel safe again.
I say this from experience. I’ve been where you are. I worked on every part of my life to recover.
