Flybuys is one of Australia’s largest loyalty programs, rewarding you with points when you shop at major retailers like Coles, Bunnings, Kmart, Target, Officeworks, and more. These points can be redeemed for discounts on your next shop, used to book holidays through Flybuys Travel, or transferred to Velocity Frequent Flyer for a chance to score luxurious business class reward seats.
Given its widespread popularity, it’s important to maximize your points while keeping your spending to a minimum—ensuring you get the most value from every purchase.
Here are a few steps I follow to rack up maximum bonus points when shopping at Coles without spending too much.
1. Create unique Flybuys account for each member in the family.
Yes, this is the first thing that I ask anyone who discusses Flybuys strategy with me "How many total Flybuys account do you have in the household?". Now, lets see why having multiple account helps.
Flybuys bonus points offers are mostly personalised, so you might receive a great bonus offer in one week, but not receive any the following week. If you have multiple Flybuys account in the household (say 4), your chances of receiving the bonus points offer in at least one of the account have just increased 4 times. If you receive the bonus offers in multiple accounts, thats even better as you can then decide on which offer is better suited to you.
You just need separate email address for each accounts and can have the same phone number associated with all accounts.
How to have multiple Flybuys app in same phone? -- Normally you can have both Flybuys and the Coles app installed on your phone. Login into the Flybuys app using one account and in the Coles app using other. This way you can manage two Flybuys accounts in the same phone. For more than two accounts, you can activate the offers on Flybuys website and then keep a screenshot of your Flybuys barcode.

2. Limit your spending on one Flybuys account to just $50 per shop
Flybuys’ algorithm is designed to encourage you to spend more than usual. For example, if you spent $80 on your last shop, there’s a good chance your next offer will require you to spend $90. If you meet that $90 target, the next offer might ask for $100, and this pattern continues.
To break this cycle, we always try to limit our spending to close to $50 and this strategy have been really successful for me. All the bonus points offer that I receive has a spend requirement of $50.
Now, lets combine this strategy with our first strategy with this example.
You as a family spend $200 per week and have just one Flybuys card. You receive one of the most popular Flybuys offer (4 week spend offer for 10000 bonus points). With just one account, you will earn 10K bonus points after spending $800 over 4 weeks.
Now, lets see the same scenario with 4 Flybuys card in the household and each spending just $50 per week. All the 4 cards will receive the 10K bonus points offer with just $50 spend requirements. You can then spread your weekly spend of $200 across 4 accounts and earn a total of 40K bonus Flybuys points. Your total spend is still $800 over 4 weeks, but the bonus points that you earned has increased from 10K to 40K 😁.
Below is an example of the 4 week spend offer that I normally get in my Flybuys app. I don't let this spend requirement to go over $50 by limiting how much I spend on one card.
3. Do your shopping at Coles on Tuesday or on Friday to double the bonus points in some scenarios.
A lot of you might be aware of this IT flaw in the Flybuys system. If you are not aware, let me explain it to you.
Flybuys normally sends bonus offers in two sets.
First set of offers starts on Wednesday and ends on Friday. These offers arrive in the Flybuys app on Tuesdays itself.
Second set of offers starts on Saturday and ends on Tuesday next week. These offers arrive in the Flybuys app on Friday itself.
The hack here is that if you activate the first set of offers on Tuesday itself and shop on Tuesday, you will get the bonus points for those offers even though they technically starts from Wednesday. Similarly, if you activate the second set of offers on Friday and shop on Friday itself, you will get the bonus points for those offers even though they technically starts from Saturday.
Now, lets say you received an offer of 2000 bonus points on $50 spent between Wednesday to Friday. Then again on Friday, you received the second set of offers which also have 2000 bonus points on $50 spent between Saturday and Tuesday. What I will do is activate both the offers and spend $50 on Friday. This will fulfil the criteria of both the offers and will earn me 4000 bonus points on a spend of just $50.

4. Utilize the gift card offers at Coles
On almost every week, Coles run promotions on their gift cards which can be used at various Australian stores either online or in store. Some of the gift cards offer 20x or 10x Flybuys points per $1 and some of the gift cards offer a set amount of bonus points of each card. The most famous one is the Coles Mastercard which offers 2000 bonus points of $100 and $250 cards. These cards can be used anywhere which accepts Mastercard and is a great way to score some bonus points. 
If you are planning to make some big purchases from stores like Apple, JB Hifi, Officeworks, Good guys and many more, keep checking for the bonus points offer on gift cards that are accepted in these stores. You can then purchase the gift cards from Coles and then use them to make your purchase at the retailer stores.
5. Utilize the Coles Fuel offer that you receive after shopping at Coles
When you shop at Coles, you may receive digital fuel dockets. Here's a full details about the Coles digital fuel vouchers
Available to Flybuys members who spend $30 or more in one transaction at Coles
Valid for 28 days after you shop at Coles
Can be used to get 4 cents off per litre of fuel or 8 Flybuys points per litre
Can be activated in the Flybuys app or online
To redeem, scan the Flybuys card at the pump
I recommend switching your preference to 8 points per litre and then filling up at Coles or Reddy Express to maximize your Flybuys earnings.
