Es ist immer wieder eine Freude zu sehen, wie die tiefgelben „Äpfel der Erde“ zum Vorschein kommen, wenn die Forke den Boden berührt. Man zieht die Pflanze einfach vorsichtig heraus und sie fallen überall herum. Dann sammelst du sie ein. Aber es gibt noch mehr. Ich brauchte einige Zeit, um das herauszufinden. Man steckt die Forke also vorsichtig wieder in den Boden und dreht sie um. Es erscheinen weitere „Äpfel der Erde“ und Du wiederholst dies, bis Du alle eingesammelt hast. Vielleicht ist noch eine übrig. Aber das wird nächstes Jahr eine neue Pflanze werden. Jetzt ist es an der Zeit, sie hineinzubringen.

It's always a pleasure to see the deep yellow "apples of the soil" appear when the fork hits the ground. You just pull the plants out carefully, and they drop all over the place. Then you collect them. But there is more. It needed me some time to figure that out. So you gently put the fork back in the ground and turn it over. More "apples of the soil" appear, and you repeat this until you collected all. Maybe there is one left. But that will be a new plant next year. Now, it's time to bring them in.
*in some parts of Germany, Austria & Switzerland, potatoes are called "Erdäpfel", which literally means "soil apple."
