Three Months In: A Love Story, One Lette ...

Three Months In: A Love Story, One Letter at a Time

Jul 27, 2025

Hi friends,

We’re now wrapping up Season 3 of The Allgoods: Vietnam Through the Eyes of Love — and with that, we’re reaching the end of the first quarter of this year-long story.

Since April, more than 150 episodes have gone live — each one drawn from a handwritten love letter my parents exchanged during my dad’s deployment to Vietnam in 1971. They wrote to each other every single day. Sometimes twice.

It started as a love story. It’s still that — but now it’s also a window into friendship, heartache, pregnancy, music, exhaustion, and hope.

Where we are now (late July 1971):

  • Sarah has just separated from the Air Force, closing a major chapter of her life and stepping into the unknown — pregnant, on her own, and figuring out what’s next.

  • She’s on her way to Miami to visit her friend Judy — a trip that quietly sets the stage for the life she’ll build after the baby comes.

  • Back in San Antonio, Myra has entered the picture — a calm, grounding presence who will become part of our family for decades.

  • Dick is still in Vietnam, writing daily, longing for connection, and dreaming about stereo equipment, R&R, and a future with the baby he hasn’t yet met.

  • The letters are still full of love, laughter, and tiny daily details — but you can feel the strain of distance settling in.

What’s ahead:

This is a daily podcast, and there are still nine months of letters to go — hundreds more stories, routines, longings, and little moments that never made it into the history books.

And I’d love to know what you want to see more of:

Photos? Backstory? Transcripts? Something else?

Drop a comment or reply to this note — I’d love your feedback.

If you’re just finding this — welcome.

If you’ve been listening since the beginning — thank you.
