When I was young I would lie
I would hide the person I was deep inside
I didn't want him to be true
I wanted to be someone new
And leave my life behind.
I fantasize about being him
Of that guy over there
And wonder what life would be like
To be normal and fit in
And not stand out.
When I was young I would lie
I hid the person I was inside
It made me tired and angry
When I came home I would storm upstairs
And hide, I'd turn the music on and sing
To let the feelings out and begin to feel.
It was the only time I would be truly me
I would let the feels wash over me
I'd sing my heart out to release
The anger that I held for myself
It would often come out in tears
Or just the emotion in the songs
And I would feel the release.
Little did I know, these wasn't all my emotions
These where from my classmates
Teachers and friends, because being a teenager
Wasn't easy, I had all these thoughts in my mind
All while not knowing who I truly was.
When I was young I would lie
About the person I truly was inside
I'd hide my true love behind the doors
So no one could know, Who I love or despise
Because if they knew, would they love me still?
I mean I don't love myself so why should anyone else?
Looking back now I'd of done it differently
I'd be myself truly, deeply
I'd be gay and proud, I'd be heard and seen
For who I was meant to be
I'd stand tall and proud and tell the world
I love the same sex and I don't need your approval
Because I am me and they is no one else I would ever want to be!
