An Introduction

Jan 30, 2021

Hey there!

I hope that you are well!

I thought I'd use this opportunity and platform as a way to share ideas, resources and news. All within the teaching and mental health space.

As a qualified teacher for 5 years now, I have become increasingly interested and passionate about SEMH (Social, emotional and mental health). I have taught a number of challenging children which has motivated me to do research and to learn how I can best help these children as well as other teachers. I'll be honest, teaching children with high emotional and behavioural needs takes a considerable amount of patience, time and energy.

I have come to realise that in the classroom, behaviour is a way of children communicating how they feel. Our role as the adult (teacher or parent) is to learn how to understand and unpick these behaviours. By doing this we acknowledge that children don't always have the strategies to regulate themselves.

My aim is to help parents and teachers to understand this further and to utilise particular strategies to transform the way they deal with behaviour (at home and in the classroom) and different emotional states of children.

Keep up to date with future posts for resources, advice and tips.

Have a great day!

Shaun
