The information I'm providing you with here is to help you achieve CELPIP success. This audio clip contains helpful information on responding to a task found on the CELPIP test and best of all, it's free! But of course, if you found the information useful, you can buy me a coffee by using this platform.
In this audio clip, my focus is on the CELPIP SPEAKING COMPONENT TASK 6 Dealing with a Difficult Situation.
In this task, you will likely need to make a decision, but by doing so, you will need to disagree with or disappoint someone. You'll need to 1. Be considerate and respectful, 2. Clearly outline exactly what the problem is 3. Explain why you've made your decision and 4. Provide effective reasons to support the decision you've made. The sample I'm providing you is NOT a 60-second sample answer but it contains some ideas of ways that you can meet those criteria I've just outlined.
If you've already booked CELPIP SUCCESS online classes with me, you'll notice that this task 6 response audio clip contains the grammar and some transitional words and phrases that we've reviewed for responding to task 6.
Your best friend is turning 30 next month. She has been planning a big celebration for a while and she wants you to celebrate with her. Unfortunately, your co-worker is getting married on the same day and really wants you to be there.
So in this task, I'd need to choose to either attend my best friend's birthday party or my co-worker's wedding. There is no right or wrong answer. Whichever decision that is chosen simply needs to be supported with effective reasoning while expressing sympathy. In my sample answer, I have decided to attend my friend's birthday so I'll need to explain my reasons to my co-worker for not planning to attend his wedding.
Hi James, I hope you’re well. I wanted to discuss something important with you regarding your upcoming wedding. Firstly, let me extend my heartfelt congratulations to you and your wife on this very joyous occasion.
Unfortunately, I’ve recently found out that my best friend's 30th birthday celebration is scheduled for the same day as your wedding. I hope you can appreciate the difficult decision I am facing and understand my desire to be present for both occasions. Needless to say, my best friend holds a very special place in my life, and celebrating this milestone birthday with her will mean so much to her.
Receiving an invitation to your wedding is incredibly important to me too, and I really want to be there to witness your special day and celebrate this beautiful moment with you and your partner. However, I hope you can understand that my best friend's birthday is a significant event as well. She has been planning this celebration for quite some time, and as her best friend, I should be present.
As you know, I do value our professional relationship and all of the support you have provided me over the years. I genuinely apologize for any disappointment and I hope you won’t view my absence from your wedding as a reflection of my support and happiness for you.
Though I can’t attend your wedding, I have an idea I hope you’re willing to consider. I know how much you love eating at the Red Lobster restaurant. Would you be willing to let me arrange a special dinner in honor of you and your wife where we can all celebrate together on a day that we’re all free? I’m sure we’d have a really nice time while enjoying some amazing food. Please say yes!
Once again, congratulations on your upcoming wedding, and I wish you and your partner a lifetime of love and happiness. Bye for now.
Thank you for choosing Dionne's ESL Cyber Lounge. Good luck and happy studying.
