Going Once, Going Twice...It's All Gone!

Going Once, Going Twice...It's All Gone!

Sep 28, 2026

If you've told someone that you were a guest in my podcast and shared the link, you are awesome.

imageIt works out great if you want to add it to your portfolio. It works out great to show "proof" that you are skilled and talented and that you have an inspiring voice in the filmmaking industry.

Being a guest on my podcast means that you get to share how you did it so the next time someone asks you, " So, what do you do?" You know, that awkward moment when you're wondering where to even begin, it's just nice to say, "You know what? I was a guest in this podcast where the host interviewed me and I shared a lot about what I do, what I did, why I did or do it, how, and when I did it."

Now you can go back to talking about other stuff or simply be on your way to where you were going. It's also impressive.

"Woah!" they said, as they think about what a cool human you must be to get invited to be interviewed about stuff you did. Must be important stuff. Matter of fact, you must be an important person!

You are! But you gave them that link over the summer a year ago and they're just now getting around to click on that link.

What if your voice, your stories, your entire interview...heck, what if the podcast is nowhere to be found?

One day, coming soon, poof! It's gone.

My podcast launched on October 2017. I worked hard and I've put a lot of time, research, work and daily educating myself to get better and better at it. But what you don't realize is the amount of money I've had to dig out of my own pocket to keep it going.

Last year I had to pause recording due to a huge life event that was pretty much consuming me. However, the podcast with 216 episodes remained. People were finding it, going back to older episodes and listening, guests and their mothers and fathers, even, were proudly sharing the links and it worked. They found you and your new friends found you in your best front and center voice.

If you're a listener, the link works for you. If you're subscribed with your podcast app, it comes into your feed when a new episode drops. Or you can go to the show and browse through all the past episodes. You can go to the website and browse and search for particular guests and all that. Perhaps the discussions help you get through a task (since it's audio only) or even the drive from there to there. You found it when you wanted to. When you needed to take a break from whatever. Or to listen to an episode that inspired you and made you excited about making your own film.

That's because I continued to pay the hosting and I have to admit that no other service compares to what I have because they honor my loyalty. That is a very cool thing. Otherwise the price would have gotten out of hand for me long ago. But I paid for it. Just like when my laptop crashed and I had to get another. Then there was gear and more recently, after moving, I had to rebuild my home studio space.

All this costs a pretty penny, as they say. But just recording an episode with someone remotely had become an additional cost for me. I am also on an older laptop now. Crossing my fingers every time I turn it on. Hard drives to save the podcast files have gone up in price a lot (thanks to the cost of chips now) and tech is more expensive now than ever.

The podcast will be nine years old in a week or so. Can you believe that? It's now, as of this writing, 220 episodes.

Don't forget the publication with articles that compliment my guests on our publication! Those are extra work that include links to each episode as well.

I've created this space for you. No guests have ever paid to be on the podcast, in case you're wondering. I also would not accept it.

Whatever you do, don't think this is a marketing pitch or something. I wish I could continue to keep it going. Whatever you do, don't wait until links don't work anymore and when the podcast is gone, to ask how you can keep it alive. Only I can do that because it's my content created by me.

Oh, did I tell you I don't use A.I. to create, edit, generate or write anything? Not even an email. By me doing it it's a process that connects me to all the listeners.

The SBP Podcast Mobile Filmmaking does another really cool thing: It tells the story of mobile filmmaking. It does so with your own voices. Some of my listeners have become guests. Some listeners have decided to make a film because a guest inspired you. Perhaps more than one, because you listened to more than one episode.

Perhaps during the 2020 pandemic our voices helped you somehow. Perhaps you were having a bad day and you listened to an episode where we made you laugh. Perhaps you learned things about a film that you didn't know before and it gave you a new perspective.

I've only asked one thing from my listeners: Listen.

I've suggested you share what you liked to listen to, or to share with someone who can benefit from listening.

Today, after almost nine years, I ask that you do me a favor and do one more thing. Become a monthly subscriber on our Patreon or here on BuyMeACoffee. Every bit counts. Ask someone else to do the same and to share it with someone they know will appreciate it too. Keep it going just as I want to keep it going.

Nine years and 220 episodes is a lot of time and a lot of stories. My aim is to inspire you with the show. I hope I've done that for you. I hope that people have come to your social media that I include in the podcast notes, and follow you and support you and your work.

I have a lot of hope and I continue to believe in your power to tell stories and my wish is that you are now, more than ever, willing to make movies. Your stories matter. Sharing stories is important when the world around us seems to be falling apart. But let's keep us together. The podcast has had a hand in building this community outside of the in-person International Mobile Film Festival. It's helped you reach and inspire others as listeners sharing, and as guests sharing your work.

Thank you for nine years of incredible awesome you being you.

Oh, and if you've been following since the first episode or somewhere close to it, happy birthday and happy 9th anniversary. Enjoy a slice of virtual cake with me!
