My name is $URGE and I make a multitude of things online.
From running sites like my portfolio for projects, and a kinda well known archival site for the Australian hip hop artist your best friend jippy, AND sometimes posting videos on YouTube, I make a mixed bag of things for all sorts of audiences!
Since the dawn of me pursuing the creation of social media content, I haven't made a cent of anything. Seriously. This is purely because I choose not to fork over information to Big Brother and make it their property. As contradictory as this sounds now considering this page exists, I have a reason for it.
My Reasoning:
Over the years, I've realised that people go all in for social media nowadays thinking it'll make them big, especially for platforms like YouTube. So we'll use this as an example.
As soon as they hit a milestone of subscribers, or gets hundreds of thousands/millions of views on their videos, they quit their 9-5 and decide to go all in.
However, this would've been a good scenario more than a decade ago when YouTube were in peak periods, but now it isn't. Social media has gotten REALLY unreliable nowadays when it comes to making revenue. And for the average person they might not realise that.
Sadly for them, after the realisation sets in it's too late, and now their videos have been falsely removed/their channel terminated with nowhere to turn to.
When it comes to making revenue on social media, I believe it's crucial you have a Plan B.
Whether it's having a job working 9-5, OR you have a page on a site like Buy Me a Coffee hoping that people pledge. I have both of those things, and despite the fact I might've only made $5 off BMaC as of posting this, this is still WAY more reliable then having to hook up all my information to YouTube and pray you don't get banned for absolutely nothing.
Basically, YouTube in my eyes is not seen as a liveable source of revenue especially in my country of origin, so direct donations always win.
So if you want to, consider pledging some money to support me and my efforts.
The proceeds will go to paying off projects that I have mentioned earlier, as well as just paying off life in general.
