What's Going On? February Edition

What's Going On? February Edition

Feb 20, 2024

In this month's edition of What's Going On, I reveal an unexpected professional change, the easiest and yummiest wing recipe, as well as two book recommendations.

As the Superbowl approached, the internet was full of recipe suggestions. However, I cannot recommend a recipe I have not tried, so while #Wing Recipe may not be trending anymore and Travis and Taylor are on to their next romantic adventure, I will tell you what …. write this Wing Recipe down for the next time you crave wings. This is too easy and too yummy not to share!

Bone in wings

Salt, Pepper and sauce of your choice.

Bring wings to room temp. Pat dry to remove all moisture. Generously, sprinkle with salt and Pepper. Place on parchment paper lined pan and bake at 250 for 30 minutes. Flip them over, crank the oven to 425, and bake for another 10 minutes or until crispy. Toss in your favorite sauce.

I love this recipe because everyone can toss (or not toss - I like them plain) how many wings they want in the sauce of their choice. It's a win/win! Enjoy.

I am reading Fairy Tale by Stephen King. It's so clever! If you, like me, thought all his books were scary - they are not! I am no fan of horror, and I assure you, this book is about a charming boy who discovers a portal to another world. What does he find, or rather who? It's riveting how he discovers this world and the similarities in all the fairy tales you've read and loved.

An audiobook I am listening to is North Woods by Daniel Mason. This recommendation came to me recently, and it is masterful storytelling. I'm mesmerized by the multiple generations of stories converging into one story about apples, people, woods, and time. The narrators are amazing, and I look forward to each evening when I can snuggle up and wind down with this audiobook.

The new year has presented a new professional opportunity for me. In an unexpected turn of events, I am working from home and developing a new
plan ,
strategy,

outlook,
path for me in 2024.

I feel as if this is an important moment. One in which I do not wish to
rush,
fix,
or avoid the discomfort of the new turn of events.

In fact, I see a horizon full of opportunity, and the weight of proceeding to choose a path with grace rather than my selfish, nagging urge to wrestle the narration into an easy story with a happy ending weighs heavily on me.

So when I decided on December 31, 2023, to claim the new year as "What's in store for 2024," I had no idea what I was opening myself up to.

Stay tuned if you're interested in where this opportunity takes me. Consider subscribing to To Write a Better Story for announcements and musings as I work my way in and through this plot twist.

Plus, please check out my Practical Parenting articles. These articles originally appeared in my local newspaper as a weekly parenting advice column. It’s amusing when I look back over my own parenting journey with 5 kids!

Oh, and if you make the wings, let me know if you enjoyed them!
