Here's one of my gardening secrets about "weeds".
Last year I planted a new rhubarb bed. This year the rhubarb is growing and so are the weeds. What's the most efficient way of killing those weeds, especially while the ground is still too wet to hoe?
Simple. I’ve smothered them.
I've covered the ground with a layer of cardboard. Then covered the cardboard with a layer of grass mowings ... this hides the ugly cardboard and will eventually add some organic matter to the soil.
It's a quick, simple and very effective way to deal with weeds and takes me minutes. No hard work and plenty of satisfaction.
