In medias res

Jun 19, 2025

I decided I want to give away the beginnings of my stories, in part because I don't know how they end. So here's an excerpt of my first post on In medias res.

......I was really just waiting, once again. It's weird how you can be so busy you can’t think, and then in the process of ticking a quick chore off of your to-do list, you end up just waiting. I felt bad, like I was wasting my time, and I was pretty annoyed. Why do humans get bored? Is it an evolutionary thing?

The coffee shop wasn't very busy, and it wasn't very big. If the guy I was looking for was here, I would have seen him. But no. He was not on time. Sheryl told me that this guy was always here–every day–on a laptop from mid-morning until mid-afternoon. I don’t think she was lying, or even wrong. I was starting to get worried about him. I just needed a quick word, and I’d leave him to his laptop. Hopefully he wasn't already in the morgue. Or worse, somewhere I’d have to rescue him from. I simply didn’t have the time......

The prompt is titled Steven King Girl, and there is more action on the site. I'll be adding more of these kinds of prompts as time permits and as the muse allows.
