Lee touched the touchpad for the second time in the men's 200m backstroke final at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games on Sept. 29 at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Aquatic Sports Arena in Hangzhou, China, with a Korean record of 1 minute, 56.54 seconds.
He beat the previous record of 1:56.77 by 0.32 seconds. The gold medal went to Xu Zhai (China) in 1:55.37.
Lee's silver medal in the event was the first in 29 years, following Sang-Joon Ji's gold at the 1994 Hiroshima Games.
Lee now has four medals at the Games - two silver and two bronze - and is the 20th Korean swimmer to win a medal at the Games.
Starting in lane 5, Lee got off to a good start with a time of 0.59 and was closely followed by Shizawa, who remained in second place until the 150-meter mark.
