South Korean breaststroke powerhouse Choi Dong-yeol (24-Gangwon Provincial Office) broke the Korean record in the men's 50-meter breaststroke to win bronze.

Choi finished third in the men's 50-meter breaststroke final in 26.93 seconds on Monday at the Hangzhou Asian Games 2022 at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Aquatic Sports Arena in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China.

He also set a new South Korean record.

Choi clocked 27.06 in his heat earlier in the day, breaking the previous South Korean record of 27.09 set at the Jeju Hallabae National Swimming Championships in November 2021 by 0.03 seconds, nearly a year and 10 months.

Choi, who finished third overall in the preliminaries, took home a medal by 0.1 seconds off the Korean record.

Choi is the first Korean swimmer to win a medal in the men's 50-meter breaststroke at the Asian Games, which has been an official event since Doha 2006.

It was the fourth medal for Choi, who also won silver in the men's 400-meter medley relay and bronze in the men's 100-meter breaststroke and 400-meter mixed medley relay.

Qin Haiyang (CHINA), who won a quadruple at the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka in July, clocked 26.35 to take gold in the 50m, 100m, 200m breaststroke and 400m mixed medley relay.

Qin Haiyang, who won gold in the men's 100 and 200 meter breaststroke, men's 400 meter freestyle relay, and men's 400 meter medley relay, completed his quintuple with gold in the 50 meter breaststroke.

China's Sun Jiajun took the silver in 26.92. 스포츠토토링크
