The Korean speed skating team, which participated in the 2024 International Skating Union (ISU) Speed Skating World Championships, failed to place on the last day and ended the competition with one silver medal.
Hyunjun Ahn ranked 15th out of 24 participating athletes in the men's 1,500m event held at the Olympic Oval in Calgary, Canada on the 19th (Korean time) with a time of 1 minute 44.93 seconds.
Jeong Jae-won (Uijeongbu City Hall, 1 minute 48.64 seconds), who also competed, ranked 24th. Kang Su-min (Korea University), who competed in the women's 1,500m, ranked 20th with a time of 1 minute 57.43 seconds.
The national team completed its schedule for the competition today with the men's and women's 1500m race.
In Korea, Kim Min-seon (Uijeongbu City Hall) won a silver medal in the women's 500m at this competition.
It was disappointing that long-distance athlete Jeong Jae-won, who had been expected to be a strong medal candidate, stayed in 11th place in the men's mass start on the 18th.
After completing the schedule, the national team will return to Korea on the 20th and then compete in the national men's and women's championships starting on the 24th. Afterwards, they will prepare for the 2024 ISU Speed Skating All-Round & Sprint Championships to be held in Germany in March.
Acting coach Park Jeong-eun said after the competition, “The men’s mass start performance was disappointing, but overall, the players’ records were not bad. “The results were as good as I expected,” he said, adding, “The generational change to younger players is progressing well.” 스포츠토토맨
