Getting back on track!

Aug 14, 2021

Hello! It's been a while, hasn't it? The last few months have been hard in a many ways for lots of people, myself included... and the system too. If you've lived through the mess that the transition to Foundry 0.8 was (versions 1.5 and 1.6)... hey, I've said it many times but it bears repeating: I'm terribly sorry for the inconvenience it might have causesd.

But that's behind us, baby!

First, in the last few weeks, here's what's changed:

  • The system now exclusively supports Foundry 0.8. I did try to support both 0.7 and 0.8 (as I did with the transition from 0.6 to 0.7) but.... oooooooooooohhhhhhhhh my, what a mess that was. The system would break for some users; once fixed, it would break for some others; fixing that would break it for the first group... ugh. 0.7 support had to be removed but, seeing how little feedback I got on this (read: none), it ended up being unnecessary in the first place. Oh well.

  • You can now output items to the chat. Whether it's abilities, cyphers, weapons or really pretty much anything on a PC sheet, there's now a chat bubble icon you can click to share information to the chat area. This makes it easier to share your cypher's information with your GM, so they can avoid looking into a compendium to reference it or having to open your character sheet. Nifty!

    • As an addition to that feature, you can now open an item's sheet from the chat when you outputted that way by clicking on its name.

  • Limited view of character sheets (PC and NPC) has been added. Other players with "Limited" access to your sheet will now seem very limited info about the character:

    • PC : see header (name, descriptor, type and focus), picture and bio

    • NPC, community: name, level and picture

  • Quite a few bug fixes, with minor layout changes to pack more information into the PC sheet while not losing any readability.

"Ok, fine", I hear you say, "but what's next?" Glad you asked! (Well, in my mind you did.)

  • Whenever it is available, the damage dealt by an ability/weapon will be outputted to the chat for easier reference.

  • Effort for damage will finally be available!

  • Item transfer between players will be available

  • Automatic skill creation for abilities will be removed: it will still be possible to create a related skill, though, but the process will not be automatic. This has been requested quite a few times so it's high time I actually get down to it!

  • A few other minor bug fixes and other minor annoyances - like reordering of items (eg. skills) which gets messy when you have too many of those

Nothing groundbreaking (yet) but I'd rather introduce smaller improvements after a period of bugginess. I have WAY MORE ideas in the works but I am a single dude working on this part-time. :D

Got any other ideas, requests? As always, I'm listening!
