It's a day for coffee. As is always true.

Sep 29, 2026

Today is National Coffee Day, at least in the US. I think it’s an unnecessary celebration, since every day is a coffee day for some of us. For others, there is no cause to celebrate a vile waste of perfectly good water.

I, of course, am among the former.

It is a good time to acknowledge my gratitude to the people who are consistently supporting the work I do by buying cups of coffee.

Often, these “cups of coffee” stay coffee (or Red Rose tea) which powers my reflection. Other times, they turn into websites or mailing software or books to read or books given away to people who need them. Always, they are a moment of gratitude for the group of people who sustain this writing work at 300wordsaday.com and at FindingWordsinHardTimes.com.

As I’m moving into the last quarter of the year and completing nine months away from the hospital. I’m thinking about how to be most helpful in the next bit of writing. I’ll keep you posted.

And as the people who support this work, I want to let you know that I’m taking the last two weeks of October off writing while we visit our son in Germany. Usually, I schedule posts and all. But I want to step back. And I’m guessing that you will be okay with that.

Thanks for the ways you are caring for people yourself, and for others through this work.

Gratefully,

Jon
