Today we hike up 11,984 ft Medicine Bow Peak, located in the Snowy Range in Southeastern Wyoming. My app showed this hike as 7.2 mi long with an elevation gain/loss of 1,596 ft. I hadn't planned this hike, I merely intended to drive through the Snowy Range in Wyoming on my way to somewhere else, but when I realized the peaks only had a tiny scattering of snow on them, I decided to go for it. In previous years when I passed this way the Snowy Range always had quite a bit of snow on the peaks, the wind was howling like a Banshee, and the temperatures were frigid, but today offered a perfect weather window. Armed with little information due to the lack of a cell signal in this area, I went for it, and I'm so glad I did. As a heads-up, this peak can be achieved without having to hike the full 7.2 mile loop, so can be shortened significantly if you choose, and also cut down on the elevation gain/loss.
