Hiking in many areas of Southern Arizona is just downright dangerous, and Kofa National Wildlife Refuge is a prime example of one of these areas. The of the rocks are basalt, andesite, dacite, and rhyolite which is particularly horrible to walk on, especially on any kind of slope. This, along with cactus and other critters makes desert hiking a bit more of a challenge and more dangerous, even in January when we hope the snakes are in hiding along with the spiders, scorpions, and other dangerous wildlife. In this video, Scott and I go for two different hikes. On the second hike, we did half the mileage as the first one, but it took longer to do. Scott also scares me at one point. How? Watch the video to find out. If you are interested in collecting any of the rocks above along with limestone, shale, sandstone, and quartz, you can do so at the Crystal Hill Area. There are limitations on the amount you can take, so be sure to check the rules first.
