Some thoughts on ''gamedev'' experience

Some thoughts on ''gamedev'' experience

Jul 30, 2021

Heyy! OvO/

Today I wanted to share some of my little experience of game developing and maybe some useful thoughts, which could be helpful for those who are planning or in the process of develpoing a game.

I've mentioned before on several other social media profiles that I'm working on an original fantasy universe for my game, which is going to be in a fantasy genre, for now at least. And the game itself is going to be in the genre of the table top role play game (TTRPG later on), which is using dice checks in order to resolve conflicts between characters and the environment.

It is my very first project ever, as I've mostly been writing and drawing for myself as a hobby, but after I've lost my opportunity for musician career, I started to wonder of what should I be doing with my life. It was back then, when I was drawing a comic in AC II setting with my own characters. One day my friend came to me and said that it could be done in a better way, if I wasn't using an already existed setting and just write my own world, even if it was a little world. Since then we've started to settle up things in the world, asking the right questions and thinking of what could work for me; to be honest, they helped me alot on the first steps as well as in the present, when it's in a long big process of rulemaking too. For now our developing success plan is: brainstorming for ideas, making up a ''To do'' list and then progressing with that plan. Sometimes things go faster, sometimes they slow down, but they never stop completely and that is what I find a first most important thing! Never let yourself give up, as if you give up, then it's 100% a lost opportunity and a chance to succeed.

Rarely I have some anxiety and thoughts like ''what if it fails?'', but in the moments like that I try to remember other creators and their projects, like for example Eric's Barone Stardew Valley, which are super hard to make and requires alot of effort to put in the project, and in the end it all was worth it. Those kind of people put alot of hope in my heart and I believe that with enough passion my humble project can be successful too, especially having so many precious friends helping me out! That's the second most important thing - if you find people, who would be helping you along the way in any way possible, (make some tasks for you, donate some money or useful contacts, anything related to the developing the project) there will never be anything impossible, so my second most important thing in developing a large project is people! Always appreciate people, who are willing to spend their resources and time to help you out and make sure to never forget to thank them when you have a chance!

The larger the project - the more ambitious you as a creator should be. The more ambitions you have in your mind, the more things you will be needing to know, to do and to understand. So the third most important thing is - always keep on learning! Whatever you do, whatever your project or business is, it will be boring and primitive, if the creator's mind has stopped its development and has started to stagnate. People love new things, people love interesting things, and most important, people love unique things, so make sure to keep on making progress not only in the project, but as a developement of your own personality. When your own mind keeps on growing, you will constantly have something to give to this world, something to share with other people, which is always good both for you and the world around you. Keep on looking at the world with the eyes of a child, keep your inner child safe and sound and you will always succees in whatever you do~

Hope I didn't sound too much like a coach xD Just humbly sharing my little experience and thoughts about the process of my own developement, hope that there are people with similar feelings as mine. Make sure to drop me a note if you want to discuss about it, or share your own experience in project making, it will be super interesting and exciting to get to know each other a little closer! ^v^

Hope to see you next time!

Your night drawrrior,
Silva
