How to Make A Floss Ring Cabochon

Dec 02, 2021

We love our floss ring jewelry, so its no wonder I often get asked where I get my cabochon floss ring charm. When I tell people I make them, they instantly want me to show how to make them. So, you are getting this exclusive article on how to do just that.

First, I purchase my supplies at LilyDs, but you can also find these supplies on Amazon. So, everything you need you can affordably find on their website. Let's take a look at our supply list to make a one inch cabochon floss ring charm!

*Please Read through the all the steps before you begin!

Supply List for One Inch Cabochon Floss Ring Charm:

(1) 1" (25mm) Cabochon Tray

(1) 1" (25mm) Cabochon Glass Globe

(1) 1" key ring with lobster hook

Lily Glaze for Glass Cabochon 4oz

Judkins Micro Glaze for sealing printed clipart or images (or) Aileens Orgional Craft Glaze

Isopropyl or Rubbing Alcohol

Paper towel

Step One:

Prepare your image you want to place inside the charm; whether you want to print out a cute bunny or a photo of your best friend. Make sure to print the image at the size of your cabochon glass globe and blank try that you are using. In our case, we are making a 1 inch charm in this tutorial. You can find some great images on Etsy.

Take your time looking around Etsy, be it that many, many shops offer these one inch images - some shop images do not print out the right size even though the product states it is one inch. When you go to print your image make sure to work with the setting in your printer's dialog box (resize percentage) to get the right size!

Step Two:

Place your glass cabochon over the printed image and trace with a pencil around the glass globe so you know what size to cut the image for placing inside the blank tray. You will want the image to completely fill the inside of the tray, but you may need to trim it down slightly after tracing around your glass globe. Make sure to center your image so you get the most of it from your charm! Cut out the image.

You will want to put a thin coat of glaze after cutting out the image, over the image and allow it to dry before going on to the next step. From what I understand (I never do this step), the glaze keeps your artwork (image, clipart, etc.) from smearing while setting overnight in the glued down cabochon! I do not recommend these products since I have not used them so discretion be advised.

Step Three:

Place a small dab (1/2 to 1 drop of Lilly Glaze) in the center of the blank tray where you will set your cut out. Place the cutout over the drop of glue smoothing out the glue underneath the cut out image.

Step Four:

Place a similar amount of the Lilly Glaze glue on the top of the cutout image in the center of the image.

Step Five:

Now, place your glass globe down onto the image with the flat surface of the globe next to the image and press firmly in the center of the glass globe so that the glue underneath the globe spreads out evenly to all the edges of the tray where you image lays.

Step Six:

Take some rubbing or isopropyl alcohol on a paper towel and lightly remove any excess that glue that leaks out from under the glass globe and tray edge. Allow to sit and dry for at least 30 minutes.

Step Seven:

Take your round key ring and slide it carefully onto the hook at the top of cabochon tray. And you are done!

I love making these charms because they are easy to make and a lot of fun. Plus, they look professional and make my floss ring bling! I hope you enjoy this tutorial, and thanks for supporting my work.
