Preordered a Boondock Echo

Preordered a Boondock Echo

Apr 07, 2024

Let's switch things up a bit with this vlog

I'm still going to continue with a weekly vlog. They have been helping me stay focused on some goals, manly learning CW, and others seem to like them. I'm just going to not post all of them public on YouTube.

For now every other one will be published "unlisted" on YouTube and only available here. Since not everyone enjoys vlog style videos, I might as well have less of them cluttering people's feeds.

I'm starting to get caught up with some other projects, so I should be able to "fill the void" on YouTube with more of the regular stuff I make videos about.

Trying to "field copy" CW

I continue to make some progress with learning CW. Besides the methods of improving my ability to copy characters I've already discuss, I have started listening into CW POTA activations.

I've started doing this after I have completed a POTA of my own. I tune in a CW activation I see listed on the POT spots and listen in. Since I know the activator's call, I just listen for "CQ" and their callsign. Then it's up to me to keep up.

This has been great practice for me and I highly recommend giving it a try yourself. Once I get a bit more proficiency with it, I'll start bringing a keyer with me!

I think it won't be long before I start hunting POTA and chasing SOTA on CW. I also think getting a few POTA's and SOTA's in the log will go a long ways for getting my confidence up to a point where I will try an activation by calling CQ on CW.

So I preordered a Boonddock Echo

The Boondock Echo was the subject to last night's livestream on the Ham Radio Crash Course YouTube Channel. Honestly I almost skipped it, for it didn't sound like something that would interest me. I made the assumption it would be yet another SDR dongle or software that I would have no interest in. Or if I did have an interest, it would be too much of a pain for me to set up. I'm glad I tuned in.

I actually tuned in a bit late and ended up watching the beginning of the stream this morning. Then I went ahead and threw my budget to the side and preordered one.

I am really looking forward for this thing to arrive. I should be able to do some pretty cool and useful things with this.

If you missed the stream, it may be worth your time checking out. Or check out Josh's stand alone video on it I'll link below. To be honest, I missed the stand alone video. If I saw that, I would have been excited to see last night's live stream.

I plan to use it in some of the same way's Josh details in the above video. Plus I may have a few ideas of my own. If they pan out, I'll be sure to share them with you all.

Speaking of sharing...

If you read these blog post I post here, please share them with others that you think would enjoy them as well. As stating before, I'm not out to get rich or become internet famous with this stuff. I just find it fun to create videos and blogs on some of the things I enjoy doing.

I plan to start creating more blogs here. Stand alone blogs besides blogs that provide more info to accompany some of my YouTube videos. No memberships or donations required.
