Heat Up The Ice Age Trail POTA Event?

Heat Up The Ice Age Trail POTA Event?

May 03, 2024

So I had an idea, and I forgot

A few months ago I had the idea of trying to get a POTA event started that I thought would be a lot of fun. Full disclosure, it was not an original idea. That probably goes to someone in Canada. At least the first I've seen of it. A bunch of Canadian hams activated a national trail in Canada at the same time, and I thought it would be a good idea to try here in Wisconsin.

Let's heat up the ice age trail

I thought that was a catchy name, if I say so myself. But more importantly, I think it would be a whole lot of fun for midwest POTA activators to do.

How many of us can activate the Ice Age Trail at the same time (or day to make it easy)? Sounds like a fun thing to figure out.

Update 05/03/2024

A big thank you to Michael KB9VBR! He created the below Google doc for anyone interested in signing up for this Heat Up the Ice Age Trail POTA outing. Of course you don't need to sign up. Just thought it would be found to put together a list of how many people took part and where they operated from.

Michael also discussed this during his monthly YouTube livestream to help get the word. Out this discussion seemed to spur some more interest.

My plans for this event

I plan to head to the Harrison Hills trail segment near Tomahawk, WI, where the Ice Age Trail crosses Lookout Mountain. Lookout Mountain is a SOTA summit that I've activated a few times now. There is a nice hike from a parking lot trailhead to the summit. Should be a great time!
