2024 Wisconsin Ham Radio Campout QRP

Just a quick activation video

I didn't have a camera out much at the campout. In Fact, I didn't bring anything more than my iPhone for a camera. I was focused more on the fun than making YouTube videos. But here is a quick one of one of the many POTA activations I did this weekend.

The Wisconsin Ham Radio Campout

I have been looking forward to this camping trip all year. The now annual Wisconsin Ham Radio Campout. This year the fun was had a Brunet Island State Park. First time I’ve been to this state park and rest assure, it will not be my only visit.

Very cool park, as the name suggests, is mostly on an island in the Chippewa River. Many of the campsite are along the shoreline of the island. Very nice place.

This year was the second year of the now annual campout organized by Michael KB9VBR. Last year there was around 20 or 25 campers. This year it was probably doubled! Lots of great people with different camping and radio setups, all throughout the campground.

I took a day off of work so I could get to the campground a day early. My friend Jim W9UUM did the same thing. In the weeks before the campout, Jim reached out to me about a nearby Summits On The Air summit to the campground. He saw that I already activated it this year, but want to know the best route to it. Even though I already had the activation, I offered to come along with him anyway. Thinking I could always activate it again anyways, then maybe hit a POTA on the way back to the campground.

Well, that park turned into another park, and into a five park rove. Basically we were having too much fun to stop! We both added some new parks to our list and 15 meters was booming into Europe. At our third stop we got a QSO that I would have never expected. Japan!

The campout was simply amazing. As I mentioned above, so many great people with different camping and radio setups. A good part of everyone’s time at the campout was walking around the campground checking out campers, camping gear, and of course, radio setups.

If you are able to be make it to Wisconsin during the first weekend of October, 2025. It would be great to see you at the next campout. It will be a great time.
