Medical Tourism Startup CureMeAbroad Raises $1.1 Million in Pre-Seed Funding Led by SteerX Ventures

Pune-based healthcare-tech platform CureMeAbroad has raised $1.1 million in a pre-seed funding round led by healthcare-focused venture capital fund SteerX Ventures, with existing investor AIRA also participating, taking the startup's total funding to roughly $1.7 million.

imageHere's what CureMeAbroad actually does. It's a global healthcare platform that helps international patients discover, compare and verify hospitals abroad, check provider accreditations, get treatment cost estimates, and book care across destinations, essentially building trust infrastructure for an industry long plagued by unclear pricing and unverified listings. The platform has already received Medical Travel Facilitator Certification from Global Healthcare Accreditation, and its network spans more than 400 accredited hospitals across six countries.

The founder story and traction matter here. Founded in June 2025 by Aditya Oza and Mikhail Bohra, CureMeAbroad draws over 22,500 visitors a month, with key patient source markets in the US, UK, Australia and Canada, helping them access treatment in destinations like Turkey, Mexico, Thailand and India. This fresh round comes just months after the startup raised $600,000 in April from a strong group of angel investors, including Dr Roman Saini, Himanshu Ratnoo, Kunal Gupta, Devaiah Bopanna and Vikrant Potnis.

The fresh capital has a clear roadmap. CureMeAbroad plans to onboard more accredited hospitals, expand into new patient source markets, strengthen its AI-powered technology, and push into non-elective specialties like orthopaedics and oncology, while also exploring physical experience centres in key international markets, a notably capital-intensive move for an early-stage startup.

The ambition here is bold. The company is targeting $100 million in annual patient treatment bookings by FY2028, a massive jump from its current $4.8 million run rate. It now competes in a crowded field alongside Bookimed, PlacidWay, The Medical Tourism Company and Medical Departures globally, and Vaidam Health within India specifically.

The bigger picture is genuinely compelling. The global medical tourism market is projected to reach $174 billion by 2035, with around 14 million people crossing borders for medical care each year, and CureMeAbroad is betting that verified trust, not just lower prices, is what will actually win patients over in this space.

From a $600K angel round to backing from a dedicated healthcare VC fund, CureMeAbroad's pre-seed raise is a signal that cross-border healthcare access is becoming a serious investment category of its own.
