Bangalore Watch Company Raises $1.4 Million Seed Round From Its Own Customers to Expand Globally

Indian luxury watch brand Bangalore Watch Company (BWC) has raised $1.4 million in a seed round from a group of its own customers, including family office principals and high-net-worth individuals from both India and overseas, a genuinely unusual funding structure where the brand's believers literally became its backers.

imageHere's what makes this company worth watching. Founded in 2018 by husband-and-wife team Nirupesh Joshi and Mercy Amalraj, who left their tech careers overseas to pursue modern Indian watchmaking, BWC makes mechanical watches in India and exports them to more than 30 countries. The brand builds its identity around distinctly Indian themes, aviation, space, cricket and the outdoors, bringing Swiss-quality craftsmanship together with stories that don't follow the usual template of Indian watch design. Some of its pieces even use recovered fighter-plane aluminium and aircraft carrier materials, giving the watches a genuinely unique material story.

The fresh capital has a clear, deliberately focused roadmap. BWC plans to expand into the international independent watch market, targeting two to three strategic overseas locations in markets with established watch collector communities, alongside potentially one additional location in India. The company currently operates a single flagship boutique in Bengaluru, selling watches priced between Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 3 lakh, largely through a direct-to-customer model.

The traction already backs the ambition. BWC has an annual production capacity of around 1,500 watches and plans to quadruple that over the next three to five years. The brand also claims a notably high 30% repeat purchase rate, and has earned recognition from global publications including The New York Times, Forbes and Hodinkee for its originality and craftsmanship, genuine validation in an industry where heritage European names have long dominated the conversation.

Co-founder Nirupesh Joshi put the opportunity plainly, pointing out that great independent watch brands can come from anywhere, and that India now has the chance to be part of that global story, told with a distinctly modern Indian perspective.

From a single Bengaluru boutique to collectors across 30 countries, Bangalore Watch Company's customer-funded seed round is proof that genuine brand loyalty can become genuine capital.
