Hiking the Grand Canyon South Rim to North Rim (R2R2R Part 1) | Full Silent Hiking POV

Feb 13, 2026

This long-format video documents Part 1 of a single-day Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim (R2R2R) crossing of Grand Canyon, covering the section from the South Rim to the North Rim. Filmed as a continuous ambient point-of-view hike/run, the footage follows the descent from the South Rim via the South Kaibab Trail, the traverse of the inner canyon near the Colorado River, and the ascent to the North Rim on the North Kaibab Trail. This segment covers approximately 34 km (21 miles) one way, with a cumulative elevation gain of about 1,850 meters (6,100 feet) and a total elevation loss of roughly 1,450 meters (4,800 feet). The South Rim trailhead sits at approximately 2,210 meters (7,260 feet) above sea level, while the North Rim trailhead reaches about 2,510 meters (8,240 feet). The hike segment toward the North Rim began shortly after sunrise and was completed by mid-day. Conditions in the inner canyon were dry but windy, while temperatures dropped significantly with elevation. Near the North Rim, air temperatures were below freezing, and light sleet was present on exposed sections of the trail. Trail surfaces near the rim included cold, compacted soil with intermittent moisture but remained passable at the time of passage. The route transitions through multiple ecological zones, from pinyon–juniper woodland on the South Rim to desert vegetation near the river and higher-elevation conifer forest approaching the North Rim. The video is presented without narration and includes distance and elevation information for key landmarks.
