This trip started in Essex, where I collected the van, hired for the weekend. I drove it home the night before, packed up my gear (you need a lot of gear) and hit the road the next morning. My itinerary went pretty much to plan and I didn't chicken out from wild camping on Queen's Square right in the heart of Bristol - Weston-Super-Mare, where I rocked up on South Beach. I skated at Bump Roller Disco in Bristol, stayed overnight and headed to Newport, Wales in the morning. From there I drove to Tamworth in the Midlands for the annual Rhythm Retreat Rollerskating and camping festival and had an incredible night. Before taking the van back on Sunday morning, I woke my sister and her husband out of bed, because as bus drivers I knew they'd love seeing the van. Slow drive back into London with a renewed sense of adventure and surprisingly chilled. I can recommend it. Check out Roots & Rhythm in the Wild on Substack to read about how it changed my life.
